Happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend. I’m slooowly settling in down here in Florida — adjusting to the 99% humidity, working on my tan, and picking out my favorite place to go for froyo (which by the way, is Nuberri). It’s going to be an expensive few years if I don’t kick this daily froyo habit soon. 😉
I’m still waiting for most of my baking stuff to arrive (the moving truck should come this week, woohoo!), but don’t worry, I’ve still got a delicious recipe to share today. It’s actually quite fitting with my move, too, since I now live in Florida, where citrus is just about everywhere to be found… orange chocolate chip cookies!
I’ve got quite a history with chocolate chip cookies, so to say that these are one of my all-time chocolate chip favorites… well, it says a lot! The orange zest gives the cookies a very unique, fresh flavor without overwhelming the other flavors of the cookie.
I think they should be the official chocolate chip cookie of Florida, no? 🙂

Soft, chewy chocolate chip cookies with zesty orange flavor. For a different citrus flavor, you can use grapefruit, lime, or lemon zest.
Makes 2 dozen
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 10 minutes
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until creamy. Add the egg and orange zest, mixing until blended.
In a separate mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, salt, and flour; stir to combine. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Drop the cookie dough by rounded tablespoon onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake 10 minutes or until the cookies edges are golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheets 5 minutes before removing to cool completely.[/print_this]
